How The Mind Works

The interesting thing about the mind is that if you take a brain and cut it open, you can't find the mind. You can't find a poem or the taste of chocolate or the feeling of a first kiss. All you find is a bunch of nerve tissue. The nerve tissue in your brain acts as a substrate. It's almost like your computer. It acts like your hard drive or your motherboard, and basically it's designed to store various bits of data and to assemble, reassemble, and rearrange them and call them up whenever you want.

"Life consists of what a man is thinking all day." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Your own mind is creating the world you live in. The relationships that you have, the way you feel about the people around you, and the way you feel about yourself are all filters, and almost all of these filters were created unintentionally. This is important because our behavior is affected by our assumptions or our perceived truths. We make decisions based on what we think we know.

You have to be careful with what you think you know.
