The Spirit of Good Power
Resilience has allowed me to forge ahead when faced with disappointing setbacks, conflict, crisis, and critics. In my experience, resilience results from a number of factors, but two in particular- relationships and attitude.
Both are under our control.
The right relationships provide perspective, meaning they help us judge something's importance, or see something from another, perhaps broader, angle, which is essential for forward progress. Relationships also fuel our energy and are a source of growth and support.
Attitude is how we choose to deal with the many challenges we face in a crucial moment of decision-making but also over time. The most difficult goals take a long time to come to fruition, especially for large systemic change.
A leaders attitude optimism versus fear, calm versus panic -will shape their organization's attitude.
Resilience manifests in emotions that have the power to lift as, which is why I consider it good power's spirit. So much is at stake when we strive to create positive change for ourselves and our teams but especially at scale.
The higher our goals, the harder the climb. Obstacles along the way will be episodic as well as constant, and we don't want to let a crisis derail our plans or the steady buzz of critics shake our confidence. In essence, being resilient comes down to choices we make.
